ABOUT THE COMPANY
HOW WAS BLADETAP FOUNDED?
Gavin, CEO of BladeTap had stopped shaving for many years — only trimming when needed— because shaving had become so frustrating. It was the simple solution to avoid razor burn and save cash on razors that dulled way too quickly. After taking a project in a more professional setting, Gavin had to get back into the habit of shaving. Frustrated by a clogged shaving razor, he realized something needed to be created to solve this problem. After finding the perfect materials needed to unclog a shaving razor, Gavin went on to create The Tap, the first 3-in-1 razor unclogger by BladeTap. Learn more about Bladetap here.

HOW MUCH LONGER WILL MY SHAVING RAZOR LAST WHEN I USE THE TAP?
We’ve received feedback from customers who’ve claimed that their razors have lasted up to 4x longer after using the Tap. Keep in mind that the life of your razor depends on many factors (e.g. how often it’s cleaned and sharpened), but The Tap seems to extend the life of a shaving razor.
DOES THE UNCLOGGER BRUSH WORK LIKE A TOOTHBRUSH?
Not at all. The unclogger brush is more frayed and is a different size than your average toothbrush. The brush is specifically designed to unclog the gunk that gets stuck in between the blades of a razor head. It’s not meant to scrub the blades like you would scrub your teeth with a toothbrush. The bristles of the brush are frayed so that they can easily get in between the grooves of the blades to dislodge the gunk stuck in the head of the razor blades. The bristles are also crimped and made at a specific diameter so that there’s no damage done to the razor or brush when it’s used properly (i.e. Tapped up and down — not side to side).
WILL THE BRUSH GET CUT BY THE RAZOR?
Not if you are using the unclogger brush properly. To use the brush properly take your razor and gently tap up and down on the bristles. This up and down motion allows the the bristles to get in between the grooves of the blades to dislodge the gunk that’s stuck there. Now if you brush the razor head side to side it’ll defeat the purpose of the bristles. Brushing the razor in this side to side motion will damage both your razor and the unclogger brush, so make sure that you are using an up and down motion when using the brush.
HOW DOES THE UNCLOGGER BRUSH WORK?
The brush is specifically designed to unclog the gunk that gets stuck in between the blades of a razor head. The razor head should be tapped gently in an up and down direction on top of the brush bristles to get the best results.
DOES THE UNCLOGGER BRUSH ROTATE?
Yes, the unclogger brush not only rotates 180 degrees but also clicks into five different positions for optimal use. The unclogger brush can rotate to your desired angle depending on where it’s mounted for easy access while unclogging. The brush can also rotate inward which protects it from getting smashed making it very travel-friendly.
HOW DOES THE SHARPENING PAD WORK?
Made with a soft rubber-like material, the sharpening pad polishes the microscopic nicks that have built up over time on the blades of your razor. The blades of your razor are sharpened/polished when the head of the razor is pressed down on the pad and slid in the opposite direction of a normal shave (i.e. bottom of the pad towards the brush).
HOW DOES THE HOLDER HOOK WORK?
The holder hook has two main grooves with a rigid structure and flexible edges that act as a clamp that holds your shaving razor in place as desired (e.g. firmly or loosely). The grooves of the holder hook can fit nearly every multi-blade or cartridge shaving razor.
HOW DOES THE SUCTION MOUNT WORK?
The purpose of the suction mount is to mount the Tap to any flat or smooth surface. First, the mount must be placed onto the surface with it’s strong suction cup, then the main body of the Tap can easily snap on and off. Typically, the Tap is mounted in the shower, by a mirror, or even near/in a sink to keep it in an easy to wash area.
IS THE TAP TRAVEL-FRIENDLY?
Definitely. The unclogging brush can easily rotate inward so it doesn’t get smashed in your travel bag. Plus, your razor can clamp firmly in place on the holder hook so it doesn’t move throughout your travels.
DO THE SAME SHAVING RULES APPLY TO EVERY PERSON?
No! Shaving can be different for every person. There isn’t a universal set of rules that applies to everyone, so pay attention to what works best for you.
ALL THINGS SOAPS, CREAMS, AND AFTERSHAVES
CAN SOAPS OR CREAMS STOP RAZOR BUMPS?
When it comes to soaps and creams you want to be careful. Yes, they can create a barrier between your skin and the blade of your razor, but they can also be what’s causing your razor bumps. If you find that you have issues with razor bumps try using fragrance-free shaving soaps/creams. Your skin might be sensitive to certain fragrances, so it’s best to cut them out altogether.
DO SHAVING SOAPS AND CREAMS EXPIRE?
If stored properly, shaving soaps and creams can last a very long time. We’re talking years. To be safe check and see if there is an expiration date labeled on your product. In the meantime store your shaving soaps and creams in a cool dry place to prevent bacteria growth.
IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN USING SHAVING GEL FROM A CAN AND USING SHAVING CREAM THAT YOU APPLY WITH A BRUSH?
The real difference between the two lies within the ingredients. Shaving cream that you apply with a brush oftentimes contains higher quality ingredients than your average canned shaving gel. Although it’s perfectly okay to use shaving gel from a can, most believe that you can get a better shave with shaving cream applied with a brush.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AFTERSHAVE SPLASH AND BALM?
Aftershave splash is the strictly liquid based product you’re probably most familiar with. Think the shaving scene from Home Alone. Generally, aftershave splash contains high concentrations of ingredients like alcohol or witch hazel which helps close pores after a shave. Aftershave balm on the other hand acts as more of a moisturizer. Most balms do not contain alcohol, but instead contain ingredients that nourish the skin.
TYPES OF RAZORS
IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RAZORS?
Yes, there are different types of razors and many believe they each produce different results. If you’ve been using the same type of razor and don’t like the results, try switching it up with other options.
WHAT IS A SAFETY RAZOR?
A safety razor is a shaving device that holds a typical shaving blade in such a way that reduces the chances of nicks to the skin and irritation.
WHAT IS A DE RAZOR?
A DE razor is the most common type of safety razor known as a double edged razor. A basic DE razor usually contain three pieces: the cap, base plate, and handle.
WHAT IS A STRAIGHT RAZOR?
A straight razor was one the original shaving instruments used. Typically, these blades are attached to a handle making it easy for them to fold in and out.
WHAT IS A CARTRIDGE RAZOR?
Probably the most common razor that you know of. This type of razor is an evolution of a safety razor. These razors usually have disposable cartridges which contain the actual razor blades.
HOW DO I KEEP MY RAZOR BLADES IN TOP CONDITION?
Keep your razor in top condition by storing it in a cool, dry place after every use. You’ll also want to take the time to unclog your razor. This will help slow the dulling process and decrease the chances of bacteria growth. "The Tap" 3-in-1 Unclogger, Sharpener, & Holder does all these for you.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO THROW OUT MY RAZOR / CHANGE ITS BLADES?
It all depends on how often you shave. The more frequently you shave, the quicker your razor dulls. Once your razor dulls it’s either time to sharpen the blades or get rid of it altogether.
HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY BLADE IS PULLING OR BECOMING DULL?
Trust us, you’ll feel it. Having to go over the same section multiple times is a good indication that your blade is becoming dull. Also, pay attention to how your skin reacts after a shave. If you notice that your skin has started to get irritated after each shave, it might be time to get a new razor.
WHAT DOES 'SHAVE READY' MEAN?
When someone describes a razor as “shave ready” they typically mean that the razor is sharpened and ready to shave with. Keep an eye out for this label on your razors because not all are considered “shave ready.”
HOW DO I SAFELY DISPOSE MY BLADES FROM MY RAZOR?
Don’t throw your old razor blades straight into the trash. The best option would be to buy a blade disposal container or “blade bank” so you can easily dispose your blades as they dull. If you can’t seem to find one you can always keep the original cartridge box and place the old blades inside. After you fill that cartridge box up, simply throw it in the trash.
WHAT IS A GOOD POST-SHAVING ROUTINE?
A generally good post-shaving routine includes:
1. Splashing cold water on your skin to close pores
2. Follow up with an aftershave splash/balm or moisturizer.
WHAT IS METHOD SHAVING?
Method Shaving is a type of shaving technique using hydrolase products developed by Charles Roberts.
IS SHAVING EVERY DAY BAD FOR YOUR SKIN?
Not necessarily. Many people have to shave every day and if you’re one of those people just make sure to use a good razor and shaving cream. Although, it’s always a good idea to give your skin a chance to rest if you can manage a day or two without shaving.
